Why
does God allow bad things to happen to good people?
The Bible says in 2Corinthians 1:3-6, “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of (WHAT?) ALL comfort; 4 Who comforteth us in (WHAT?) ALL our tribulation, (WHY?) that we may be able to comfort them which are in any (SIMILAR KIND OF) trouble, (HOW?) by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ ABOUNDS (WHERE?) in us, so our consolation ALSO abounds (HOW?) by Christ. 6 And whether we (ALL CHRISTIANS) be afflicted, it is for (WHAT?) your (AS YET NON-CHRISTIANS) consolation and SALVATION, which is effectual (HOW?) in the enduring of (WHAT?) the SAME sufferings which we (ALL CHRISTIANS) also suffer or whether we (CHRISTIANS) be comforted, it is (WHY?) for your (AS YET NON-CHRISTIANS) consolation and SALVATION.” If you think of yourself as a good person and you’re going through some tough times it is only because God’s allowing you to go through those things so that you will have a testimony to share with someone that (if He hasn’t already) He IS going to send your way just like He sent you my way. Think about it for a minute! What do you think the actual chances would be of an old man who spent most of his entire life in a small town in New Hampshire ever meeting anybody from Florida? Contemplate on this too; AFTER the child of God has had a TEST, he/she ends up with a TESTIMONY that means the salvation of someone. Many if not all the things that you’ve been through my dear brother or sister in the Lord, I’ve been through too, and being 70- years old maybe I’ve even been through a little bit more. Ecclesiastes 1:9 “The thing that HATH been, it is that which SHALL be; and that which is done is that which SHALL be done: and there is NO new thing under the sun.” While I DO regret how some of the things I’ve done and been through and came out of, I do not dwell on it and as “cold” as it may seem, I really don’t REGRET anything I’ve ever done or been through, because everything that I’ve ever done or been through has led me to where I am right now and I love where I am now right now. Even if just one thing had changed in my life, the knowledge (especially of Him) that I now have at my disposal would not be there. Paul said in Philippians 4:11 “I have LEARNED in whatsoever state I’m in therewith TO BE CONTENT,” I too have learned to be content wherever I am at any point in my life because I KNOW that God is using my bad experiences for good (Genesis 50:20) to people that are in prison, which is where I deserve to be. As far as getting depressed over past mistakes, FORGET the past. It’s gone and there is nothing you or anyone else can do about it. Paul said in Philippians 3:13 “This ONE thing I DO, forgetting those things which are behind (in the past) and reaching forth unto those things which are ahead.” Constantly remembering your past (as you are most likely finding out right now if you are enduring hardship) will only drag you down even further. It’s one of the devil’s ways of destroying. (John 10:10) The devil’s strategy of ultimately possessing people, and he doesn’t care how long it takes is; first depression, then oppression, and lastly possession. I heard something a while ago that God said to somebody that tells it all: “When you live in the past with all its regrets and sorrows and heartaches, it is hard for you because I am not there. My name is NOT I was. My name is I AM. When you live in the future, with all its unkowns, uncertainties and doubts it is hard there too because I am not there either. My name is NOT I will be. My name is I AM. When you live in and for the NOW it CAN be very easy because I AM there. My name is I AM and “Lo I am with you always even to the end of the earth. (Matthew 28:20) If you will listen to My word AND DO it, (Romans 2:13, James 1:22) even though the road may get rough at times if you stay in My word I promised that I would see you through even the valley of the shadow of death and even there you will fear no evil WHY? for I WILL be with you” and (Hebrews 13:8) “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” John 16:33 “In the world ye SHALL have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” Matthew 11:29-30 “Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; (WHY?) for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye SHALL (WHAT?) find rest unto your souls (WHY?) 30 For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” Psalm 119:105 “Thy word is (WHAT?) a lamp unto my feet, and (THY WORD IS) a light unto my path.” Proverbs 4:20-22 “My son, attend to My words; incline thine ear unto My sayings. 21 Let them NOT depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. (WHY?) 22 For they are life unto (WHO?) those that find them, and (THEY ARE) health to ALL their flesh.” There’s life in the word of God. Seek and ye SHALL find. Got questions or comments?
